Certified Dialogue Education Practitioner Joan Dempsey is the former GLP Dialogue Education Community Director and has been designing curricula using the 8 Steps of Design since 2006 when she participated in GLP’s foundation course, then-called Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach (now The Foundations of Dialogue Education).
She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, as well as a post-graduate certificate in the teaching of creative writing from the same university. She’s currently facilitating a self-paced online course for writers, IMPROVE YOUR WRITING: Ten Essential Tools for Streamlining Your Sentences, designed using the 8 Step process.
Joan’s work has been published in The Adirondack Review, Alligator Juniper, Obsidian: Literature of the African Diaspora, The Citron Review, Plenitude Magazine and has been aired on National Public Radio. In 2012 she was awarded a significant research grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation to work on her novel-in-progress, Prelude.
Joan lives in Maine with her partner, GLP CDET Bert Troughton, and their menagerie of animal companions.
